Katerina Smoldyreva was born in Russia, but she lives and works in Dubai, UAE.
She works with ceramic clays and her main interest is figurative sculpture.
Katerina has been always fascinated about the infinite creative opportunities the clay offers and the challenges it presents.
Her work reflects the things she sees and experiences every day. She also takes her inspiration from wide array of sources and media; from German New Objectivity artists to Japanese netsuke figurines, from Dickens and Dostoyevsky's satirical sketches to the art of Ballets Russes.
Katerina’s works are always narrative, trying to tell an intimate story or to answer questions about our identities in relation to history and global cultural differences.
